Background

Dr. Elizabeth Love designed, developed, implemented, and directs a unique and highly successful citizenship training program sponsored by the City of Bellevue. She has been recognized twice as Washington state's Outstanding Citizen and also with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award. The Catalyst program began at Seattle University, where she completed her doctorate. It continued at Eastside Literacy, where it reached greater numbers of Eastside residents. When the city of Bellevue chose to sponsor it as a service to the community, classes were held at various facilities throughout the community. In 2001, the city brought the citizenship program and Elder & Adult Day Services together. Now the Catalyst staff (director, business manager, marketing manager, tutors, event coordinator, and webmaster) welcome students each weekend.
